Welcome Bride, This is a short piece about what to look for in a Wedding Photographer. It is the trend in the past year that more and more individuals are getting into “Photography”. Photography is our profession and we are in year 13 doing Weddings in the Naples, Fort Myers area. We are contacted through our Studio on a weekly basis from Brides that have made the wrong choice for a Wedding Service Provider.
We’re now in the digital age: Fact of the matter is there are so many “professional” photographers these days due to the advantages of digital photography. You have to ask though, why wasn’t photography in so much demand many years ago when film was the only option? My guest is that many did not see it as an easy buck as they do today. Watch out for those who have a business card and website and say they are “professional” photographers; Many of them just picked up a camera at Best Buy on their way to meet with you….their first camera ever. Everyone is trying to find a way to survive in this down economy.
You should always have at least one meeting with the photographer before your wedding day to discuss which shots you do and do not want. You don’t want to give photographers in Las Vegas too many directions – they do know how to do their job, after all. However, you don’t have to keep your mouth shut, either. If you have a few preferences, feel free to discuss them. Your photographer shouldn’t gripe about not being able to take the traditional “bridal party jumping in the air” shot if you don’t want it.
You will be ready to seek out the people you need to see and get the information you need to get. If you are looking for a essex wedding photographer for example you need only go searching the photography stands. If only for cake ideas then only the cake people.
Try to figure out what your maximum budget is and then what you’re comfortable signing at. Eliminate the photographers who are simply out of your budget. If someone is a little out of reach, it never hurts to ask; photographers may lower their asking price for any number of reasons. Maybe you’re getting married in a spectacular venue, maybe your date is one they wouldn’t otherwise fill, maybe you are the coolest couple ever. However if your ceiling is $2,000, I’d avoid emailing the photographer who starts out at $5,000. Realistically, you probably won’t get an affirmative response.
Do not schedule your bachelorette party the night before your wedding. All the partying and alcohol will definitely take a toll on your skin. So, if you don’t want to look like a zombie bride, make sure you are well-rested. Getting that fresh-faced look is a lot easier if you have enough ZZZ’s.
It’s Your Wedding Day… Not a Photo Shoot . If you find your jaw aching from smiling, or just need a break from the camera, then tell your photographer you need a rest for 5 minutes. Have a drink or a chat with friends, and continue with any photos you need later. This may be difficult to do if you have a tight schedule, or want loads of posed photos, so consider this when you’re planning the day’s events.
My advice to you is to fully understand this simple concept. Even if you are using fully automatic units there may come a day when you have to set the zoom manually, it is then you need to understand it.
